高速計算與環境流力實驗室著重於高速電腦計算,運用及發展各種不同尺度電腦模式探討各類環境流體之動力系統,包含全球氣候變遷之長期影響、大氣海洋間水氣交互作用、全球及北太平洋洋流系統、颱風對北太平洋環流影響、近岸海洋動力與內波(internal wave),了解這些動力系統對區域性氣候變遷及氣象預測海象預報有極大幫助。利用大氣邊界層大渦流模擬(Large Eddy Simulation, LES)空氣污染傳播與擴散,運用LES與紊流(Turbulence)理論可詳細探討污染物受地形建築影響,準確預測污染區域。在研發各種電腦模式之同時也發展各種高階、高精確度數值計算方法以及平行計算之技術,所發展之計算方式並包含生物流體力學應用為科學計算擴展新的里程碑。
